Girlfriend of GM Recites “Star & Crescent”… Flawlessly

March 21, 2009

The Star & Crescent shall not be worn by every man…” — A phrase heard and recited by Kappa Sigma brothers around the world. But not last Saturday night. As her name was called out in the banquet hall of Maggiano’s Little Italy, Alyssa Gugliotti, girlfriend of GM Lyle Stevens, walked poised and confident (not unusual for Alyssa) to the podium where she took hold of the microphone and [flawlessly] performed “The Star & Crescent”.

A cap off to a great weekend of networking and catching-up at Fenway; pickup football; and a celebratory banquet–this display of diligence and commitment from a non-brother really was sobering, and like one of Alyssa’s fellow Delta Zeta’s before her, Amy P, I think the coveted “Xi Beta Brother of the Year” award is in her future. Great job, Alyssa!

Thank you to all that came out for our Founder’s Day celebration, and all who donated. We’re getting the ball rolling here, so start looking out for more upcoming events, news, and stories. This is your chapter so please submit entries, pictures, etc. Make comments, give us your feedback. Subscribe to keep informed. Update your contact info. Join the facebook fanpage. There’s a lot you can do, and it’s all easy. Let’s get going.

  • We now have a midterm class of 5, being lead by our Midterm Pledge Educators Dave Cesarino and Mike Bergquist.
  • Initiated the 21 men of the Alpha Epsilon Fall Class, who proved beyond a doubt that they deserve to be part of Xi-Beta.
  • Another social with AEPhi at Beer works and a clear domination at Kappa Delta’s Semi.  Some of Brothers even went without dates…
  • Another successful show in afterHours for our Fall Concert Series featuring MAE.  Thank you to Brothers Sambuca and Maccia.  See media coverage here.
  • Brother Viccaro, elected IFC President, and Brother Palmer re-elected IFC Secretary.
  • A rowdy “Docet Trivia” BIA session thanks to Brothers Potter and Slavin.
  • An annual trip to our neighbors to the North.  Thanks to Brother Kozhushnyan.
  • The first Ritual Session of the Year, in which Brothers from the both Bentley and Northeastern earned levels, as well as pledges learning the pledging ceremony.  Thanks to Brothers Leer, Potter and Slavin for putting this together.
  • The completion of our first ever “Bologna Challenge” in which Pledges and their Big Brothers compete against the other pledge/big brother teams.  Congratulations to Brothers Carrera and Ranley for winning with a score of 107.2.  These points are based on placings from the Big/Little hunt, Big/Little Tourney, attendence to meetings/events, pledge test scores, and ritual proficency.

  • A successful Thanksgiving Food Drive, thanks to our Fall Pledge Class.
  • A decent attempt at a co-sponsored community service event with our Toga Dance Party with PIKE.
  • Through our Punt Pass and Kick Competition, the first event of our new 3 part Greater Cause Series, we were able to raise a substantial amount for the Military Heroes Campaign.  Thanks to Brother Adams.

November Undergraduate Monthly Update

November 2, 2008

Brothers,

We are now past the half-way point for this semester. As we enter November, I’d like each of you to reflect on your involvement with the chapter thus far, and pick one thing that you are going to greatly improve upon this month. This is something you should be doing on a regular basis. If you truly want to make the most out of being a Kappa Sigma, you need to know how it can improve you. Personally, I am going to try and improve my dedication to Service.

If we all improve one aspect of ourselves, then the whole chapter improves.

We have accomplished a lot in the last 2 months, and have much more left to go. I am extremely proud of my Brothers and all the hard work you all have put in. I hope you continue to do so.

This is how we got after it in October:

  • Midterm Rush planned, and well on the way with 15 rushees on the list.
  • An outstanding performance during Homecoming, placing 3rd in the Banner Competition, 2nd in the Float Competition, and Brother Ranley being awarded King. Thank you to Ratz and Frank for putting together Homecoming, and the guys at 806 for letting us use their apartments. Also great job supporting Ranley and Palmer for King and Mayor.
  • Another great Social with Kappa Delta, at Boston Beer Works thanks to Brothers Hughes Viccaro and Graber.
  • Many successful co-sponsorships for programming, including the Rock the Vote Concert, and the Hazed and Confused Speaker during Alcohol Awareness Week. Thank you to Brothers Sambuca and Maccia.
  • A successful show in afterHours for our Fall Concert Series featuring A Hero Next Door. Thank you to Brothers Sambuca and Maccia.
  • Brother Palmer helping the NU Club Baseball Team win their Championship. See him pictured below on the far right
  • Our Alpha Epsilon Pledge Class taking first place in Greek Follies. See the performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwmym8Y13I
  • Our Intramural Softball Team winning Xi-Beta’s first ever Championship.
  • Placing 3rd in the IFC football tournament, after shutting out Pike in the first round. We should been in the championship game, but the referees from SigEp robbed us of our would of been game winning TD run by Alumni Brother Reedy in OT vs ADP. SigEp went on to destroy ADP in the championship game.
  • Brother Sambuca placing 3rd in DEPhi’s Big Man on Campus.
  • A trip to Salem for Halloween with the ladies of Delta Zeta.
  • A good turn out for NU Service Day, Thanks to Brother Ucuz.
  • A great turnout to support Brothers Brem and Viccaro in the Pike and DZ Date Auction.
  • Our Alpha Epsilon Pledge Class winning DZ’s Turtle Tug.

Keep up the great work Brothers.

AEKDB,

Lyle
