Xi Beta Alumni Chapter Formed

Brothers,

You may remember back two years ago when we announced the creation of the Xi Beta Alumni Corporation. The idea behind the corporation was to create something that would formally begin the initiative of revolutionizing how you as an Alumni Brother stayed involved with and supported the undergraduate chapter.

While we have had some success since then, including the Founder’s Day Dinner last year in Boston, it became obvious that the best way to engage you as an Alumnus was not by inviting you to a dinner once a year or sending a newsletter here and there. Instead we need to create something that will bring back that feeling you had as an Undergraduate – something we all shared a piece of – a Brotherhood.

It is with that idea in mind that I am proud to announce the creation of the XI-BETA ALUMNI CHAPTER.

Think about all of the wonderful experiences: intramural championships, highlighter socials, Greek Week championships, beating Pike and SigEp at everything, road trips to Montreal, dinner around Boston, the many hours spent in the Cafeteria, and the incredible feeling of dominating rush and seeing our new pledges become our brothers.

The truth is, we all miss the Fellowship experienced on Hemingway, Tremont, Eldora, or whatever street you lived on. This was our Kappa Sigma family, always there to make you laugh and always there when you needed them most.

What better way to ensure those memories never die and are passed down to the many Xi Beta generations to follow? Lets come together once again and give ourselves a chance to build something that can truly be with us for a lifetime.

To celebrate the creation of the Alumni Chapter we will be having an Alumni/Undergrad weekend during Northeastern’s November 14th Homecoming Weekend. More details to follow under separate cover.

I hope that as you read this you are as excited about this opportunity to get involved with the future of Xi Beta as much as I am.  On behalf of the Alumni Chapter EC and the 25 charter members, I look forward to your support and involvement in the future of OUR Chapter.

Jeff Ostrosky Gets Hitched!

August 17, 2009

Picture 8
That’s right everyone, Jeff actually found someone willing to put up with him for the rest of eternity. Not to be outdone by Brother Witt’s engagement news a couple of weeks back, Brother Jeff Ostrosky (Xi Beta ’01) tied the knot with longtime girlfriend/fiance Luz Vizuete on a picture perfect evening at the historic Wayside Inn located in Sudbury, Massachussetts on Saturday August 8th. In attendance were Xi Beta brothers from near and far to send yet another brother off into the world of wedded bliss.

The farthest distance traveled award went to Dan Putnam (Xi Beta ’99) and wife Christine who made the trip in from Scotland. Fellow Amherstian and another 1999 Xi Beta initiate Aaron Hamel made the trip up from New York with his wife Libby. Both brothers were groomsmen in the wedding party. Rounding out the list of Xi Beta brothers in attendance were Brian Gnandt (’01), Justin Hansen (’01), Daryn DeCesare (’01), Michael Hall (’03), Shawn Wolfgang (’03), and Dustin Leer (’05).

All brothers in attendance were very smartly seated together at the table farthest from the dance floor and closest to the bar, but that didn’t stop Brother Hansen from making an appearance on the dance floor.  The night was capped off by all those who were still awake going back to the hotel and fittingly shutting down the hotel lobby bar.  Yet another great Kappa Sigma memory to look back on.

Thanks to Jeff and Luz for letting us share in the beginning of their new lives together and congratulations!

Xi Beta Alumni Corp. Formed

December 2, 2008

Brothers,

We are very excited to announce the formation of the Xi Beta Alumni Corporation.

The mission of the Alumni Corporation will be three fold. The first and most important goal is to provide a forum for all alumni of the Xi Beta Chapter to stay informed of what’s going with the chapter and what events are occurring throughout the year.

The next goal is the creation of a scholarship program where a hopefully future stream of alumni contributions will be awarded to deserving undergrads, similar to the Scholarship-Leadership Award program run by the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund.

The final and most exciting goal of the Alumni Corporation is the eventual purchase of a property that Xi Beta can call its home. This has been a dream of the chapter for years and the Alumni Corporation feels that it is time to begin the process of eventually making this dream a reality.

The corporation will be lead by a five member board of directors including Daryn DeCesare, Michael Hall, Peter Antonellis, Bradley Hoffman & Jared Shechtman. These brothers were highly involved in several aspects of chapter operations while undergrads and are looking forward to the challenge of finding new and fulfilling ways to improve the Xi Beta experience, during both a brother’s time as an undergrad as well as an alumnus.

As part of its plan of action, the Alumni Corporation has begun a project to collect the contact information of as many Xi Beta alumni as possible. Once this is completed, we will launch a new web based platform for everyone to stay in contact with each other and keep apprised of chapter news.

Anyone with questions regarding the status of the housing corporation can be directed to Peter Antonellis at psantonellis@gmail.com
